What is rhinoplasty?
As one of the most popular forms of plastic surgery, rhinoplasty seeks to alter one of the most significant parts of your face: your nose. Dr. Marcus' Los Angeles rhinoplasty provides his patients with a proportioned, balanced nose.
When this central feature is out of balance, it can draw focus away from the eyes and the lips, compromising facial harmony and fluidity. The bridge may be too pronounced or too scooped; the nostrils may be enlarged, wide or malformed; the tip may be upturned, bulbous or drooping.
All of these problems and more are easily addressed through nose surgery. In addition, while a majority of patients undergo rhinoplasty for the sake of cosmetic improvement, there are those who also seek relief from poor breathing, sinus pressure, and a variety of other ailments that stem from defects in the nasal structure.
These clients too can find dramatic relief through rhinoplasty. In cases where a weak or protruding chin is contributing to shortcomings in the profile, the doctor may recommend chin augmentation or reduction be performed in conjunction with your rhinoplasty.
Who is a good candidate for a rhinoplasty?
Men and women of all ages, backgrounds and ethnicities choose to undergo rhinoplasty in Los Angeles with Dr. Marcus, in order to enhance physical beauty and remedy breathing impairment. Teenagers as young as 14 or 15 are candidates for rhinoplasty, as long as the nose has finished growing.
All ethnicities are eligible candidates for rhinoplasty. While Caucasian clients typically tend to request hump and/or tip reduction, Asian, African-American and Middle Eastern patients will require an alternative, non-Westernized approach. A good plastic surgeon is able to preserve cultural heritage while addressing aesthetic flaws during ethnic rhinoplasty in Los Angeles.
Patients undergoing rhinoplasty should be in good health – physically, emotionally and mentally. As a doctor of outstanding personal integrity, Dr. Marcus will never perform a procedure that he doesn’t believe is necessary. Patients experiencing personal grief, setbacks or life transitions should ensure they have proper expectations before undergoing surgery.
It’s also important that clients have realistic expectations for improvement in their appearance, rather than a demand for perfection. Dr. Marcus does not perform ‘celebrity’ nose jobs where a patient wishes to look like someone famous. Instead, he focuses on maximizing the client’s unique assets, creating an outcome that is subtle, holistic, and beautifully natural.
What can rhinoplasty address?
Common nasal flaws addressed during rhinoplasty include:
- A nose that is disproportionate to the other facial features
- A protruding dorsal hump
- A wide bridge
- A bulbous, drooping or overly prominent nasal tip
- Flared or curtailed nostrils
- An asymmetrical or crooked nose, often due to injury or trauma
- A deviated septum or other structural problems
Rhinoplasty is accomplished by remodeling or removing excess bone and cartilage from beneath the skin covering the nose. After alteration of the supporting structures, the skin is repositioned over the newly shaped framework to give the nose its new appearance.
Dr. Marcus uses two different approaches in performing rhinoplasty at his Redondo Beach practice. One is referred to as closed rhinoplasty, the other as open rhinoplasty. Each has its own distinct advantages. Based on his professional experience and expertise, Dr. Marcus will determine which is best approach for you. In fact, every aspect of your surgery is based on you and your needs, rather than his products and procedures. By keeping your needs at the focal point, he delivers among the best nose jobs Manhattan Beach has available.
With offices in both Redondo Beach and Manhattan Beach, Dr. Marcus happily caters to facelift patients from surrounding areas, including Palos Verdes, Torrance and Long Beach. He and his office staff are also always happy to help with logistics for out-of-town patients. Contact our office for more information or assistance.
Before & Afters
Closed vs Open Rhinoplasty
Open nose surgery
In an open rhinoplasty, a small incision is made on the columella, which is the small column of skin that separates the two nostrils. With this incision, Dr. Marcus achieves unimpeded visibility of the nasal structures. This approach allows him to make more significant changes in the nose, as well as perform reconstruction if necessary.
Closed nose surgery
A less traditional approach, a closed rhinoplasty indicates that no incisions are made on the outside of the nose in order to accomplish the desired changes. Instead, all surgical incisions are positioned inside the nostrils. The advantage of closed rhinoplasty is there is no scar left on the outside of the nose. The disadvantage is it can be more difficult to have a clear view of the nasal structure, especially when working on the tip of the nose. For this reason, Dr. Marcus is careful in choosing this option, as it generally works best for the most minute alterations.
Of the two techniques, open rhinoplasty tends to be more advantageous. It allows greater access and greater dexterity in making desired changes. However, you and Dr. Marcus will meet to determine the best method for you.
Benefits of Rhinoplasty
For men and women who are unhappy with the size and shape of their nose, rhinoplasty-otherwise known as a "nose job"-offers a safe, effective, and time-tested cosmetic solution.
The ideal nose should complement the face, not detract from it. That is Dr. Marcus's goal when performing rhinoplasty-to complement your face. Rhinoplasty can greatly improve the balance of facial features, helping patients discover newfound confidence. With every procedure, Dr. Marcus's goal is to deliver the best rhinoplasty Manhattan Beach and surrounding areas have available. This means you benefit from a nose that is not just independently beautiful-it is also beautiful in the frame of your unique facial features.
