What is Ultherapy?
Ultherapy is an innovative procedure taking the plastic surgery world by storm. It is a non-surgical, non-invasive procedure utilizing micro-focused ultrasound and the body's own natural healing process to lift and tighten loose and saggy skin. Ultherapy can treat wrinkles on the face and décolletage in addition to lifting the brow, submentum, neck, and jowl area.
Ultherapy is the ONLY non-invasive modality with FDA clearance to lift and tighten the facial tissues. Most other machines are only approved for lines and wrinkles. Ultherapy has 3 FDA indications, which address the brow, lower face, and neck. It is a single treatment and has undeniable results.
With Ultherapy, there are no foreign substances entering or being injected into the body, making it a much safer alternative to other skin tightening procedures, especially for patients who are sensitive or have allergies. Instead, Ultherapy is working from the inside out, stimulating and regenerating the body's own ability to produce collagen.
Dr. Marcus speaks across the United States for Ultherapy and his practice is one of the premiere practices offering this procedure throughout all of California. Therefore, each patient's treatment is 100% customized to address the areas of greatest concern instead of following the average treatment protocol.
How it works
First your nurse will apply a special gel to the area or areas being treated. Next, she will place a smooth applicator firmly against the skin, using Ultherapy's ultrasound imaging to see deep below the layers of skin. By looking deep beneath the skin's surface, she is able to determine the most beneficial placement of the treatment, thus targeting the exact areas in need of rejuvenation.
Now the Ultherapy begins...
During the procedure your nurse will direct sound waves deep beneath the skin, reaching the same tissue that a traditional facelift would address. You can actually feel the small amounts of energy pulsating down through several layers of skin, triggering your body's own collagen renewal process. As the sound waves gently heat the tissue, the stimulation begins, lifting and tightening the unwanted loose and sagging skin.
The length of your treatment will depend on the area being treated and your unique treatment plan. A face and neck procedure typically takes 60-90 minutes, while a décolletage treatment takes approximately 30 minutes.

Benefits and areas treated
- Elevation of brow
- Diminution of eye wrinkles
- Lifting of cheek/jowl
- Defining neck/jawline
- Erasing wrinkles on chest/decollete
Ultherapy can lift the brow, in turn reducing the excess skin on the lids and "popping" open the eyes. It is also extremely effective in lifting and firming sagging necklines, creating a more elegant and sleek silhouette.
Recovery and Results
Ultherapy typically requires about 40 minutes or more, depending on how many areas are being treated. An over-the-counter pain medication is usually adequate for any mild discomfort the patient may experience during the procedure. There is generally no downtime and most patients may immediately return to routine activities. Results are gradual and appear over months, as your body rebuilds its own collagen supply. Depending on the severity of sagging skin, a second session may be recommended 6 months later to achieve the desired results. However, a majority of patients are satisfied with their results after just one session.
