What is BOTOX?
BOTOX is a non-invasive, safe way to treat wrinkles, fine lines and furrows by inhibiting contraction of specific muscles in the face. As it requires no down time and produces minimal discomfort or side effects, it has quickly risen to be one of the most popular cosmetic procedures around the world.
As a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Marcus has many years of experience in the use of injectable fillers - particularly BOTOX. Dr. Marcus teaches expert injectable courses across the nation and has instructed hundreds of doctors and nurses. He also teaches for Allergan, the makers of Botox and Juvederm products.
With just a few small injections, Dr. Marcus will take years off your face, creating a rejuvenated more youthful looking appearance.
Many patients from the South Bay and surrounding areas travel to Marcus Facial Plastic Surgery to receive some of the most natural looking and best BOTOX injections Los Angeles has available.
BOTOX blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles, resulting in the targeted muscle's inability to contract. The inability to contract causes the wrinkles to relax and soften. In addition, BOTOX serves as an aging preventative, because the less you are able to move a specific facial muscle, the less you are actively creating new wrinkles.
Most Common Areas Treated with BOTOX:
- forehead lines
- crow's feet (lines around the eye)
- frown lines
- nose wrinkles (bunny lines)
- square jawlines (masseter hypertrophy)
- lip lines
- corners of the mouth (particularly the downturn)
- neck lines

How long will BOTOX last?
The visible results of BOTOX mature 2-7 days after the injections, and the wrinkle-eliminating effects last 3-4 months, on average. After this point, muscle activity gradually returns to the treated areas, requiring further treatment. The upside, however, is that the fine lines and wrinkles tend to appear less severe with time because they are being trained to relax. That being said, patients may require BOTOX injections less frequently over time while still enjoying the same caliber of results.
Risks and Recovery
Temporary bruising and swelling is the most common side effect of BOTOX injections. Occasionally a patient will complain of minor headaches or cold symptoms, but this is rare and usually lasts only 24-48 hours.
A small percentage of patients may develop eyelid drooping, but again this is rare and only temporary. This usually occurs due to the BOTOX migrating between muscles. Therefore it is important to follow all after-care instructions, including no heavy exercise, laying flat or rubbing of the treated area immediately following your procedure.
