neck lift

Overview
A neck lift (cervicoplasty) is a procedure designed to improve the appearance of a person’s blunted
neck while simultaneously eliminating any bands in the neck. This procedure is included as part of a
facelift but can also be performed as an isolated procedure as well. The appropriate surgical
candidate depends on the individual structural anatomy which can have a profound impact on the final
results. Dr. Marcus is an award winning, facial plastic surgeon who consults with every patient…together

Oftentimes our neck is a dead giveaway of our age and therefore it is one of the most important
aspects to address if considering facial rejuvenation. A nicely contoured neck can significantly enhance
a person’s image and youthfulness, giving a much thinner and younger look.
Goal
The goal of a neck lift is several-fold. It should create a tighter, more acute angle on profile and it should eliminate any banding or laxity
from the frontal view. The skin contour and texture will also be significantly improved.
Procedure
A neck lift is performed with several well hidden incisions. One incision is hidden directly under the chin and the other incisions fall in
the hairline or the natural creases of the neck. The neck lift begins with elevation of the skin and muscle followed by removal of any
excess skin. It includes pulling the muscles tightly together underneath the skin and suturing them back together in places where they
have become lax or separated. The procedure offers longevity that a skin-only neck lift does not; the common skin-only neck lift is just a
temporary patch for a long term problem.
Recovery
The recovery for a neck lift usually takes 1-2 weeks. Patients go home the same day as surgery and can be cared for by family or friends.
There will be a bandage placed after surgery, which is removed on the morning following surgery. The sutures will be removed during the
first week and pain is easily controlled with mild narcotics. There may be bruising which can last up to two weeks but this is easily
camouflaged with makeup after the first week. Neck stiffness and tightness are not uncommon but this resolves relatively quickly.
