neck liposuction

Overview
Neck liposuction or lipoplasty is a good surgical option for people
with a blunted neck angle and a relatively large amount of adipose
tissue underneath the skin. The procedure can be performed by itself
or in conjunction with other surgical procedures. The results of
liposuction create a more youthful appearance by contouring the neck
and jaw line.

Oftentimes a large neck with excess fat will cause the face and neck to
appear as one singular unit instead of two individual, isolated features.
Liposuction can solve this problem by treating the neck and again
focusing attention on a person’s face. An angular neck will be
recreated and the appearance of a chin transitioning into the
mid-neck will be eliminated.

Goal
The goal of neck liposuction is to create a good lateral neck profile and eliminate excess fat in the jowl area. From the front, a person’s neck will no longer seem heavy or overweight.

Procedure
Neck liposuction is performed under 1) local anesthesia, 2) conscious sedation or 3) general anesthesia. The procedure begins by
utilizing tumescent anesthesia in a “superwet” technique followed by the removal of fat with sterile cannulas. The cannulas are inserted
through small stab incisions which are easily closed with a single absorbable suture. The removal of fat can be performed with machine
assistance or with manual negative pressure applied by the surgeon. The neck will be contoured meticulously to appropriately match the
patient’s individual anatomy and personal features.

Recovery
The recovery period for neck liposuction is approximately 1-2 weeks. Immediately following surgery, a neck dressing will be placed and
the patient will intermittently use cool compresses for the first 48 hours. The amount of swelling and bruising is variable but usually
resolves within the first 7-10 days. A majority of the recovery will be complete after the first week, but you will still need to wear a neck
band for 4-6 hours every day (this can be worn during the nighttime) during the second week.
