forehead lift

Overview
A forehead lift (brow lift) is the optimal way to rejuvenate the upper portion of a person’s face. This
procedure offers significant improvement for a low brow position, heaviness over one’s eyes, vertical
furrows between the eyes, and horizontal wrinkling of the forehead. In contrast to the common tell-tale
signs of aging that take place during mid-life, the specific signs of upper facial and forehead aging
can take place as early as in one’s 30’s. A low or heavy brow can add significantly to the redundancy
of skin over one’s eyes. At first glance, this is often misdiagnosed and looks to be excess eyelid skin.
But, in fact, the problem is derived from a low brow position.
There are many different types of forehead lifts and the best option is dependent upon each patient’s
individual anatomy and goals. For example, if a person has a high hairline, the surgeon will not perform a coronal forehead lift which will
pull the hairline even higher. Dr. Marcus personally meets with every patient and develops an entire treatment plan before considering
surgical options. He is skilled in all the newest surgical techniques and is facile with new technology such as minimal incision
endoscopic surgery.
Goal
The goal of a forehead lift is to elevate a low forehead and make a subtle but noticeable change in a person’s appearance. A low
forehead can falsely manifest as a person looking tired, angry or sad…but a forehead lift can remedy this. A forehead lift can eliminate
the constant furrows and frown lines of the forehead while drastically improving the appearance of a person’s eyes. The eyes will look
much more vibrant and open after a forehead lift.
Procedure
A forehead lift can take many shapes and forms but the ultimate goal remains the same. A lifting of the brow, an opening or brightening
of the eyes, and elimination of wrinkles are the desired results. Each different type of forehead lift is dependent upon the patient’s
anatomy. An endoscopic forehead lift is a popular procedure which utilizes tiny incisions hidden behind the hairline; it uses endoscopic
cameras to visualize and assist the procedure. A pre-trichial forehead lift addresses the forehead with a well hidden incision directly in
front of the frontal hairline and a coronal forehead lift approaches the forehead through an incision several centimeters behind the
hairline. A direct forehead lift is indicated in people with extremely deep furrows because it utilizes an incision hidden deep within the
furrow. Each procedure has its merits and is used for different indications. During your consultation with Dr. Marcus, you will determine
which approach is the most suitable for your individual needs.
Recovery
The recovery from a forehead lift is approximately one week but there may be minor swelling and bruising beyond this time. After surgery,
a head dressing will be placed overnight to decrease the swelling and bruising; this is removed the following morning. Each patient will
use cool compresses on their face intermittently for about 24 hours following surgery. The sutures which are placed during surgery will
be taken out during the first postoperative week. Strenuous activity should be avoided for approximately two weeks following surgery but
light exercise such as walking is encouraged within the first week of recovery.
